was created to help Black women navigate into their second career in film and production. SIPS is founded by Amanda Washington and Antonia Stevenson; twin sisters from Washington DC. Inspired by their own journey as artists after moving to Atlanta in 2012 to focus on their passions. In 2014 the sisters founded Katherine Lois Merritt School of the Arts Incorporated. Amanda and Antonia decided to name their nonprofit after their maternal grandmother who was a writer and storyteller. The school focuses on mentoring marginalized youth through filmmaking with their program Young Black Filmmakers. As they continued to produce the sisters yearned for authentic connections with other Black women in film.In 2019 Amanda and Antonia saw that they were also drawing a lot of Black women who needed help navigating in the film world. They created a community of artists who have a passion for film & building connections with Sisters in Productions. They believe in the power of connection and also celebrating others on the journey toward manifesting their purpose.
Our Story
For SIP website. Meet Antonia.jpg

As a child if I said  “You Lyin!” or called someone a liar I would immediately get disciplined. That was considered a curse word for me in my house and in my community of Black folks. You never wanted to be known for being a liar- or get caught calling somebody a liar. The proper way to say the “L” word to somebody is to ask them ``are you telling a story”?

Looking back, that's exactly what I was doing as a child. I was a storyteller. I would use my imagination to make up the most exaggerated stories. I told stories  about where I lived, who I was and were My daddy lived.  My infinite imagination continues to run  wild to this day.

As a writer and educator my mission is to help create stories that bring light to Black Women and humanize the souls of Black Folk. If you are a woman who is on the verge of starting her second career in storytelling  I can help you expand your imagination as well.

SIP.Headshot.AmandaJoy Washington quote.1.jpg

I AM enjoying my journey towards living in alignment with my calling. I have found a way to marry my gift in pastoral care with my gift in art. My bachelors in Art gave me the foundation but it was my Masters in seminary that gave me permission to heal and discover this exciting path. I am thankful I get to be of service and overjoyed to help Black women shine while on their road to production.

I BELIEVE that by invoking courage in our faith and creation we can use art as a way to push our culture forward towards healing.

I ADMIRE women who have the audacity to live their lives loudly and authentically -those women who are on the road to self-discovery, they take a chance and believe in themselves.

Lastly, I have a healthy obsession to the show Insecure.
